Music Daze

Authors Note: I analyzed two poems "Rainy Daze" and "Out Loud Music" Both used figurative language to enhance their pieces. Using tone and mood to make their poems both intriguing and interesting.

Most of the time people are no longer interested  into a book after the 1st chapter.  Whether the plot is boring of the theme isn’t their thing or the figurative language isn’t enough.  That’s exactly the opposite of what happened in both “Rainy Daze” by Cindy Rodgers, and “Out Loud Magic”. These poems both use figurative language to enhance the tone, mood, and interests in each poem.

In both “Rainy Daze” and “Out Loud Magic”, imaginary and figurative language used to make the text more dramatic and add desire.  For instance in the quote “ Her eyes flashed with lightning and sorrow” , it seems like the author is trying to add some imagery to replicate the way this girl is feeling; it also builds up drama which makes this piece interesting. Also , some metaphors and repeating strong words  were used in place of some of the usual word choice.  The repeating were used to the advantage  to the author in “Out Loud Magic” with really emphasizing the order of the family’s actions , and is also mixed with personification , giving it extra significance.

In addition to adding drama, the two authors used two types of imagery to add importance of the events that take place. Making it easy and interesting to read. In “Rainy Daze” the imagery made the authors tone sad and discouraged , very easy to understand. Also in the poem “Out Loud Music” the personification made the tone seemed like they were ready to conquer anything  and  everything. Making the pieces very interesting!

Also the figurative language in these pieces made the tone through they also made me feel , as the reader, feel certain ways while reading.  For example, the different personifications from “Rainy Daze” makes me feel like If I’m having one bad day, it doesn’t mean it’s a bad life. Just like the girl. But in “Out Loud Music “strong word choice and personifications made it a very powerful piece, giving you the feeling that if you have a dream , you can always conquer that dream at any time. I gained  different moods from each piece.

In both, “Out Loud Music” and “Rainy Daze” figurative language made each poem sound a lot more interesting and anything  boring. Also changing the mood and tone of the reader. So maybe, quality figurative language, instead of yawning and being bored you can be smothered by these great poems being pressed to your face, begging to be read.

Battlefield

Authors Note : This piece is a character analysis of Rae Momsen from "Love is a Battlefield". You will find twists and turns that cause the character to act in many different ways.

In the book “Love is a Battlefield” by Charlene Steward . The main character Rae Momsen  is a small town girl that never believed that she could be taken by love.  She doesn’t believe in love. When taken to live with her grandparents  after her parents die, things start to change.  Her personality and attitude towards life.
She thinks that her life will somewhat be the same, but she needs to start believing in herself.  When she starts at her new school she meets a boy, his name is Rodney.  She starts to open up about her past  to him, and comes a tad bit out of her shell.  But when Rae finds out about his past. She believes that maybe they were meant to be , but is to insecure to believe her own thoughts. Being the new girl, she is getting a lot of negative attention. She’s just trying to fight against the bullies and be herself, which making her stronger.
About half way through the book Rodney dies , It was because of a head on crash. But the worst part is that he caused it. Rae starts to think suicidal thoughts  , and that he would want her with him. Rae starts to talk to a girl named Tatiana  . They seem to have the same outlook on life.

Rae ends up starting a club to talk about everything negative  that , is going on in their lives. Pretty much a support group, for all that are struggling.  In that group she meets another boy whose name is Froy,  He is bulimic.  But Rae is the only one that knows; She seems to make him rethink of who , really cares for him.

Things get more serious in Froy and Raes lives , they start to date.  Rae is a lot more Open and Caring now.  They live by the rule , “If jump off a bridge you stay grounded”. It’s their life saying , they always will live by that rule . I mean what can I say? Love is a Battlefield ; sometimes you won’t always win the war.  But  Rae will always be a strong and very loving person for as long as she will live.

Sweet Goodbyes

Authors Note- This is a conflict and resolution piece on the books "My Sweet Memories" by Rebecca Muckers and the book "Run baby Run" by Tasha Trevor’s.

It’s amazing how you will have something one day and loose it the next. Rebecca Muckers – knows this all too well. She is a character from the book “My Sweet Memories “ by Ronda Rojoreson.   Rebecca know that when you are in the wrong place at the wrong time , you life can fade and even memories will change.   Rebecca was kidnapped at the age of 15, escaped at age 20. Coming back to her house she didn’t even feel safe.  She has a conflict towards herself, not even being comfortable in her own skin. This is the conflict for the book.

One of the reasons this is a self vs. self  conflict is because she starts to make up things in her mind. Things that are bad and  not good for her to think. She thinks that there are people after her, looking for her. Because of this  she feels like she is almost living a nightmare.  Another reason is because her own parent don’t care for her. They aren’t there to comfort her when she is down in the dumps.  That is why is it a self vs. self conflict. The message you have can make a difference.

While the conflict in the book is very drastic, there is a even stronger message that goes along with the resolution. The story was resolved when the men that took her before came back for her. She escaped their grasp and stood up for herself.  What makes things neat is when  Rodney- Her old best friend that had no idea finds where she had been and takes her in. This resolves the story,  she is no longer alone.  Overall the message of the story is to “never judge someone , you don’t know what they have been through.” There are books out there that are very close to the plot of the other book.

Another book is “Run baby Run”  by Tesha Trevers . The story line is almost the same but the main character is Garret , a boy.  We all know that this book is a self vs. self conflict. He is judged by the way he walks , talks and sometimes even the way he stands. This book relates to “My Sweet Memories”  due to the fact they are judged unfairly. Don’t judge someone if you don’t know their journey in life.

A CLEAN WELL LIGHTED PLACE

Say it, But Boil it...

Hemingway once wrote, "I am trying to make, before I get through, a picture of the world--or as much of it as I have seen. Boiling it down always, rather than spreading it out thin."

With "A Clean, Well-Lighted Place" (1926), Ernest Hemingway succeeds in that goal. He boils down the lines, helping us to see the essence of the situation. But, he doesn't go "thin." We have what we need to see the situation, with basic truths about loneliness, sadness, aging, and human connectivity. What is it to connect with another human being--even with the shadows surrounding--in the dead of night?

Light and Shadows

The story is filled with light and shadows, as an old man sits through another sleepless night--in the quiet of a well-lighted cafe. The older waiter explains to the younger, more impatient waiter, "You do not understand. This is a clean and pleasant cafe. It is well lighted. The light is very good and also, now there are shadows of the leaves."

For a lonely, old man, the clean, well-lighted cafe is a slight respite from the darkness. He drinks himself into a drunken state, hoping that sleep will come--taking him from the quiet desperation that has already caused him to attempt suicide once (as the waiters discuss).

Anger is Dangerous

Authors Note: this is an essay about the theme “the effects of anger” as shown through Cynthia  in “My Life” as well as people from history.  These examples demonstrate how anger only hurts you not help you

Why is it that every time someone insults you  to your face , you let it slide? Or would you fight back? When this happens to you , you feel of anger an you more than likely will say something back to them.  Learning to control your anger is a very challenging thing to do.  In the novel “My Life” , by Ginna Mackle , The main character Cynthia Moore experienced many challenges to overcome  his anger.  The issue has happened many times in history too.

Cynthia the main character from the novel “My Life”  struggled with anger and that  almost  sent him to a insane asylum  , many other  in real life have also dealt with anger issues.   For Cynthia karma was very real  whenever he would do something bad It always came back to him, and hurt him in some way. The first thing he did that came back to him , is he robbed a bank and vandalizing his whole school and then going on the brag about it. What happened because of that was he had to go to Juvenile Hall. When he heard that , he went insane and beat up his mom. She ended up sending him to live with his grandma in Connecticut to change his ways.  If Cynthia would’ve been able to control his anger , he wouldn’t be in this mess.

For some of the great leaders of history , their downfalls were also anger related. One of the first great leaders of America .  Alexander the Great , was murdered because of his rage when unsuccessful  in battle . He couldn’t control his anger so his time as leader ; was passed on. He would’ve been able to control his anger he would’ve been able to achieve  a lot. One of the most infamous leaders were Adolf Hitler , his father abused him and by doing so he taught him anger and revenge although his came on a much larger scale.  There is a thin line between anger and revenge , after anger there is a sight of revenge.

The emotion of being angry is caused by your minding thinking the world or a specific person has done something unfair to you.  Followed by the emotion of revenge , revenge is when your mind is trying to make (or at least tempt) you to order out what has happened with  between the two .  Anger and revenge work hand in hand even if  aren’t with the same person. So that was the theme of the piece.

Food of the Enemy

Authors Note: This is a parody of The Hunger Games. The tone of this piece is sarcasm and almost hatred.

I have taken all your food
I mean all of it
They were right there
In the open

I'm sorry girl
From district 11
But
I was so hungry

Forgive me
It was very delicious
So tasty
And warm

Lies

Authors Note :  This is a theme piece on the book “Cupcake” by Ann Putnem. Some people struggle with friendship and some are born popular. The theme of this piece is on friendship.
What I think about when walking through the halls are usually negative thoughts like “ Do I look ugly?”; “Who is looking at me?”. I mean who doesn’t? Girls or Boys, it’s all the same. But in the book “Cupcake” they are extra hard on themselves. Ann Putnem understands teenager life fully from classes, friend drama and even crushing on boys.  The author proves to readers  that you can always create a friendship , even if you start out as enemies.
Haley is being bullied , Amber is the bully. “I have to be strong for those who I love, they may not enjoy my over happiness but at least I’m not on mute. “  Amber and Haley , the perfect example of this  hate like friendship.  They have all the same classes , all the small aspects of making a friendship. But Haley is being bullied , by none other than Amber.   So these girls are all enemies, against each over and against the world. But drama what can it do to a friendship?
What happens when some type of drama comes up? I know when that type of thing happens I tend to stay out of it. But what happens when the person that bullies you stands up for you? Well this is what Amber did for Haley. Their hate relationship turns into sort of a friendship. But Haley being the smart girl she is becomes apprehensive. What are they going to do when drama comes crashing down on top of them?
That one boy you think about all day long; who gives you butterflies when he walks by. But you think “He is way to popular to notice me!” Well since Amber has connections then she gave Haley’s  number to that boy. Thanks to Amber, Haley starts dating him. Making the girls relationship very , very strong.  So how do you go from enemies to friends in only a month? Its only because they finally started seeing the inside of the person , instead of judging from the outside. Are we all cupcakes, perfect all around?
Also in the book “ Summer Nights” by Rose Pulher , Velma;  Fran start out as friends. But half way through the book. Fran starts to bully Velma , because she loves the boy that Fran likes.  But when a drama between friends start they have to be mature. When that’s all over they become friends again ; Not best friends , but are  very civil with each other.
In a cupcake there are many aspects. The hard outer shell , covered in frosting. The fluffy inside of the cupcake is baked just right. And the shiny pink tin , it is baked in. These are all things that make up a person too! When you are in your shell around new people , you are the top of the cupcake. A good person is always fluffy inside.  But when your mean to others , you are like that burn cupcake. The one nobody wants. “Cupcake” , we aren’t all perfect; sweetheart don’t put yourself down.

Pretty Little Lies

Authors note - This is a point of view piece.

Imagine moving from state to state running from your parents , and you can be caught at anytime and taken back to where you came from. All because your parents are drug addicts and abusive to you and you little sister , Ally.  Well in the book “Broken” by Brooke Emmerts , you read the story of the main character , Jess in her point of view.  The book “Broken  is about a teenager (Jess) and a  five year old (Ally) traveling all over looking for somewhere to finally call home.  But what happens when Jess meets a boy name Nicky ? Well she falls in love with him , but they both have a secret they haven’t told anyone. Jess’s is her parents and Nicky is struggling is Bi- Polar. She doesn’t know what real love is since her parents are always beating her, so when Nicky beats her she feels loved.  What Jess doesn’t know is that Nicky is also beating her sister Ally .  Near the end of the book Jess ends up losing her life fighting  for her sisters life.

The book is told from Jess’s point of view , which affect the way a person feels while reading it. For example when they are describing Jess getting beat up , the reader can almost feel it too. Since jess doesn’t know about Ally getting beaten then the reader doesn’t know either.  For awhile Jess is confused and doesn’t know what is going on , that makes the reader feel confused.  The quote “ Dance with me “ comes up a lot when Nicky is in a good mood.   This gives a example of the love  they feel for each other.  That love is moved into the readers heart too.

The point of view really tells you how the reader feels about specific things. What is the point of view of the story were to change?  Would you feel completely different about the story?  If the point of view of the story changed Nicky would probably sound a lot more sweet and say that he didn’t try to hit them.  This would make the reader feel different to ,  maybe not as sad.  So if the whole book you were reading it from Nicky’s point of view and saw things his way and felt things his way, you wouldn’t be as mad at him.  In quote “ I missed him when I was gone” at the complete end , made it sound like he did absolutely nothing ; almost like she is the one who has the problem.  It shows you how she feels now that she is dead.

The point of views here are told very good , you would defiantly have different feelings for each character if there was different point of views.  Broken is told from Jess’s point of view. Depending on what the character is like  and who is telling the story , the reader gets a lot of different emotions while reading from different point of views.

Loving but Missing You

Authors note - This is for figurative language and a original piece

I miss the way you tucked me in when you got home from work.
I miss your mustache brushing against the top of my lip when you kissed me goodbye
But one thing I will never forget is you locking me in my room , for those long winter nights
Listening to me screaming for you to let me out
Not letting me call my mom , when I needed her the most
I hope that one day you can feel how I felt back then
When you love something or someone
But they walk out the front door ignoring you while you scream for them to come back
Cry yourself to sleep every night , wake up from nightmares with tears streaming down your face
Not being able to express your feeling for so long ; hold it all in , I dare you.
Have you had someone tell you they loved you and walked out?
No? I didn’t think so. That’s because I’m living with you, saying this to me
Over and Over again , On repeat In my brain
I find it hilarious that you can sit there and tell me you never meant to hurt me
You didn’t hurt me , you just ripped my heart in two .
But did I really deserve that?
Just keep laughing while I try and hide the fact my smile is fake
Every time your words have left your mouth , you never thought of how they would affect me
But guess what , you will never get inside my heart again
Now look who’s laughing
The best part is that you even left your own mother and father alone
Leaving me to be the only one to catch them from falling through the cracks
Until one day when you come prancing back in , stealing them from me too!
Have you done enough?
No , you decide that you are going to bring my step dad that has cared for me more than you ever did.
Into the mess you made
Not to mention my mom and sisters that don’t know any better than to comfort me when I cry over you
Try to be the only one with the last name Ledger in your family out of  5 Nerdahls.
You will never be allowed ,back in my life so don’t try
You will never talk to me again so I hope what you said made you feel good
You will never talk to my family again , don’t try or I promise to make your family split in a second
Turn around
Walk away
Say you love me one more time and don’t mean it
Hear my 4 year old scream for you to come back one more time
But don’t look back , because we all know you’re making a mistake
Oh and never will you have your family call me again its hard enough to let you slip out of my life
As much as I’d love to list everything you did to me
I have much more important things to do so
See Yah Later Gator
Remember that?
Our little saying that was only meant for us and only us to say
Not for you to pass on to your kids with the lady you call your wife
Do you even have any Idea what she put me through physically?
What about dragging me to my room by my ears
Screaming in my face , horrible things
I would just try and stay strong for the time given and say I will get out of here someday
But I guess staying strong doesn’t always work
I still think about you , for sure
Do you think of me ?
Do you even still love me?
Will I ever even see you again?
Probably not am I ok with that?
Yes
The last time I saw you was in the 3rd grade , in that courtroom
Me wanting to just be free from whatever game you are playing
You tried to talk to me but failed , miserably
Like they say
I don’t cry because I’m weak
I cry because I’ve been strong for to long
I want so badly for
You
Grandpa
Grandma
Aunts and Uncles
                                                                     Even my cousins
To feel the pain that I felt
To feel your heart being ripped out of your chest
To not be able to get anything straight in your head
To be scared that you will be taken from your home by a stranger , who is really your dad
My tears will fall freely when I change my last name
Happiness
Sadness
Pure joy will be made out of those tears
You will finally be out of my head ; thoughts
People keep complaining about their lives
When they have no idea what I have been through and dealt with
I wasn’t even told , when my great grandma died
I was forced to look all of you up on facebook
Imagine being me and finding that out for myself
Just tell me everything is fine
All I need is a hug
All I need are your bear  hugs
All I needed was you being around
But then again , I don’t always get what I want
Looking out the window is even hard for me
Everything I see reminds me of you
You don’t care ..
I was in a play
I actually had a good part for once
You would’ve been so proud of me
But you weren’t there
I believe in second chances

But lately when I get mad
I can’t take it out
Until one day my blood boils over
And I scream and cry over everything
People have began thinking that I’m crazy
All because of you
But I’m happy , you feel good about yourself
I’m happy you feel strong enough to stand your ground
As you watch my tears hit the ground
Come out of hiding
Show me who  you really are
Show me how much you actually care
Wrap me in your arms
Hold me tight
Sing “You are my sunshine”
In my ears.
Be there to beat up
All of those boys who will break my heart
Because , we all know that will happen
You would be here for me if you knew what was right
For you
But I guess you don’t
One day you will figure this out
You will come to me
Tell me your sorry you walked away
But until then I will wait
