Lies

Authors Note :  This is a theme piece on the book “Cupcake” by Ann Putnem. Some people struggle with friendship and some are born popular. The theme of this piece is on friendship.
What I think about when walking through the halls are usually negative thoughts like “ Do I look ugly?”; “Who is looking at me?”. I mean who doesn’t? Girls or Boys, it’s all the same. But in the book “Cupcake” they are extra hard on themselves. Ann Putnem understands teenager life fully from classes, friend drama and even crushing on boys.  The author proves to readers  that you can always create a friendship , even if you start out as enemies.
Haley is being bullied , Amber is the bully. “I have to be strong for those who I love, they may not enjoy my over happiness but at least I’m not on mute. “  Amber and Haley , the perfect example of this  hate like friendship.  They have all the same classes , all the small aspects of making a friendship. But Haley is being bullied , by none other than Amber.   So these girls are all enemies, against each over and against the world. But drama what can it do to a friendship?
What happens when some type of drama comes up? I know when that type of thing happens I tend to stay out of it. But what happens when the person that bullies you stands up for you? Well this is what Amber did for Haley. Their hate relationship turns into sort of a friendship. But Haley being the smart girl she is becomes apprehensive. What are they going to do when drama comes crashing down on top of them?
That one boy you think about all day long; who gives you butterflies when he walks by. But you think “He is way to popular to notice me!” Well since Amber has connections then she gave Haley’s  number to that boy. Thanks to Amber, Haley starts dating him. Making the girls relationship very , very strong.  So how do you go from enemies to friends in only a month? Its only because they finally started seeing the inside of the person , instead of judging from the outside. Are we all cupcakes, perfect all around?
Also in the book “ Summer Nights” by Rose Pulher , Velma;  Fran start out as friends. But half way through the book. Fran starts to bully Velma , because she loves the boy that Fran likes.  But when a drama between friends start they have to be mature. When that’s all over they become friends again ; Not best friends , but are  very civil with each other.
In a cupcake there are many aspects. The hard outer shell , covered in frosting. The fluffy inside of the cupcake is baked just right. And the shiny pink tin , it is baked in. These are all things that make up a person too! When you are in your shell around new people , you are the top of the cupcake. A good person is always fluffy inside.  But when your mean to others , you are like that burn cupcake. The one nobody wants. “Cupcake” , we aren’t all perfect; sweetheart don’t put yourself down.
